Stone Properties: Stone is a natural product that contains many characteristics that add to its natural beauty. Some of these characteristics include: fissures (slight cracks that run in the stone that do not affect the integrity of the stone), pitting (areas is the top of the stone that are slightly depressed and do not have a polish), and carbon and other spots or swirls (dark or otherwise different marks in the stone that may or may not cause a lack of shine on the surface of the stone). Each individual stone may contain some or all of these characteristics which are a normal and even desirable part of the natural stone piece.

Granite is the most durable counter top surface available. Granite is scratch, heat, and stain resistant. It is the perfect product for the kitchen. There are many different colors and patterns of granite available today that will fit into any style of home décor.

Marble tops are softer and are not recommended for kitchen use. Marble is a beautiful sedimentary natural product that contains more fissures and pores than granite which is igneous. These characteristics add to the natural beauty of these stones. Marble is used best for furniture tops, fireplaces, and bathroom vanities.

Care of Stone Tops and Pieces: Granite care is simple, you may use glass cleaner without ammonia on most granites, and (glass cleaner is not recommended for black granites because it can leave a haze in the stone). Orange cleaners and degreasers are great for granite and they smell good too! Damp clean cloths work very well on non greasy surfaces. If there is a hazy film left after the top dries, buff the top with a clean dry towel. Oil left on granite can permeate through some granite. It is best to wipe oil up as soon as possible.

Marble can stain and scratch, thus, gentle care is recommended. Mild detergent such as mild dish soap may be used to clean marble. There are also marble cleaners on the market that may be used to clean and polish marble surfaces. Do not use any product with an acidic ingredient in it, this includes vinegar. These products will corrode the finish of the stone.

Warranty: With proper care, you will enjoy your stone products for years. Rich Murray Granite and Marble Works offer a lifetime warranty against separation of fissures that should not occur with normal use.

Our warranty does not cover damage due to misuse or customer neglect such as: excessive pressure (standing on, impact force, etc.) or leaving possible stain producing products on the stone for extended periods of time. Our warranty does not cover natural characteristics such as carbon spots, solid fissures, pitting, etc. which are normal and even desirable traits of natural stone.

We are confident that you will enjoy your granite for years to come.
