Questions and Answers about Granite Counter Table Tops
Q. Feels smooth, but some places on the granite are not as shiny as others, are they imperfections?
A. No, these areas are natural characteristics of the stone.
Q. Can you set hot pans from the range onto the granite tops?
A. Yes!! Heat from hot pans can not damage granite.
Q. How is the customer assured that the top they received will match the color sample they have selected?
A. Granite is a natural, not man made, product that has natural variances that add unique characteristics to a counter top. The color samples that we show are current, and changes in the newly quarried stone will be shown to the customer before purchase.
Q. Explain how the product is sealed and polished.
A. This is a very simple process. Before the counter or table top leaves the shop, we seal the stone with a 15 year warranty sealer. This sealer is wiped on and buffed with a soft cloth.
Q. How does the customer maintain their top?
A. Wipe down as you would any counter. We recommend either plain water, window cleaners without ammonia, or a mild detergent.
Q. Corian claims that granite can stain, is this true?
A. No, with proper sealers (silicone sealers) granite does not stain. In instances where the granite is not sealed properly and stains (which are rare) have occurred, they can be removed. Granite is naturally stain resistant.
Q. Is granite cold to the touch?
A. Granite is not as warm as plastic (corian) surfaces, but is not markedly different. A colder work surface is beneficial to those who use their counter as a work surface for making candies, pastries, dough, and other foods.
Q. Does granite scratch easily?
A. No! Most of the ways that formica, ceramic, corian, and other surfaces scratch do not affect granite. Granite is one of the hardest surfaces found on earth and is very scratch resistant.
Q. Corian states that with granite counter tops there is a lack of design flexibility. Is this true?
A. This is not true. There is a variety of edge profiles, color, and design choices with granite counter and table tops. We feel that designing with granite is as flexible as with corian.
Q. Competitive counter top manufacturers have stated that granite emits radon gas. Is this true?
A. No. This has been proven to be false.
